Miami’s vice? City at bottom in volunteering; Columbus No. 6 (FOX 19 Cincinnati)
MIAMI (AP) - People in Columbus (Ohio) are very giving with their time, according to new city and state rankings for volunteerism.
Columbus comes in sixth among 50 major U.S. cities, with 34.7% of people 16 and older performing volunteer service.
The Corporation for National and Community Service says the Ohio capital is far ahead of Miami, which is in last place with a volunteer rate of 14.5%.
Minneapolis-St. Paul finished first. Cincinnati is 17th and Cleveland ranks 22nd.
The report says the national volunteerism rate fell in 2007 for the second year in a row, to 26.2%.
Among the states, Ohio is near the middle — Number 23, with 30.3% who volunteer.
Utah is in first place, Nevada at the bottom
